John was not initially on the guest list. Never sharing what could be called a strong friendship with Mark, Finbar or Ben, John was not at first considered for the trip. Until Mark and Finbar's calculations showed they needed more crew members to make the trip viable. At which point John voiced his interest in joining the crew. Mark and Finbar were happy, and so was John. He'd just won a chance to spend a week out and about with the lads, getting drunk and rowdy and having a good time.
