Inside Botterham Locks

Bobulous CentralThe Booze Cruise → Photograph: Inside Botterham Locks

photo: the boat is already in one lock chamber, and is now looking ahead into a second; the lock gates dividing the two chambers look massive, the walls that form each chamber are almost black, and slick wet, decorated with patches of moss; the gate at the end of the second chamber seems far off.

Location: Botterham Locks, near Swindon on the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal.

Date: Wednesday 1st July 1998.

Equipment: Canon EOS 50e using 28mm f/2.8 lens.

Emulsion: Kodak Gold 200.

Keywords: canal locks, staircase pair, lock gates.

Notes: Botterham Locks are actually a staircase pair. This means two locks fused together, so in the above picture we're already in the southmost chamber about to enter the northmost chamber of the lock.
